When logging a training session, pick a label to quickly identify the focus of each ride on your reports calendars.
Default label for a standard training session.
Massage or another type of bodywork modality the horse received.
Poles, cross rails, cavaletti's or jumps were focused on that day.
Went out on a trail ride.
Flat work was prioritized during this session.
Balance pads, stretching or specific exercises tailored to the horse's needs to keep them flexible and mobile.
Ground work was prioritized. No riding.
Lesson or clinic day where you received schooling from a trainer or riding instructor.
A show or competition day.
A photo report documenting the horse's condition visually.
User's Guide
Follow this 8-step flow for every training session
Pre-Session Check-In
- ☐Center your own energy and emotions
- ☐Evaluate environment for safety (no distractions, hazards)
- ☐Observe horse's initial behavior and body language
Hands-On Assessment & Grooming
- ☐Follow assessment-flow pattern (coat or muscle fiber direction)
- ☐Groom with purpose - Cross Fiber Friction Grooming
- ☐Check for swelling, soreness, or asymmetry
- ☐Suggested before Tacking up: Thoracic Sling & Belly Lifts, Hip Tucks, Balance Pads
- ☐Tack up - Note any reactions to tack, girthing up, taking bit
Groundwork Warm Up
- ☐In Hand walk around ring, both directions
- ☐Shoulder and hindquarter (optional) Abduction/Adduction warm up
- ☐On Lunge (optional) Assess walk, trot, canter, build connection before mounting
Warm-Up Under Saddle
- ☐Establish forward, rhythmic walk
- ☐Assess relaxation, symmetry, and responsiveness
- ☐Check walk, trot, and canter quality
- ☐Note any tension, bracing, or gait irregularities
Targeted Training Session
- ☐Apply exercises tailored to horse's needs
- ☐Work on mobility, strength, balance, or relaxation
- ☐Track progress using the Smart Fit Horse scoring system
Cool Down & Post-Ride Check
- ☐Soft rein walk
- ☐Stretching
- ☐Reassess body comfort, balance, and demeanor
- ☐Record any changes or concerns
End-of-Day Care
- ☐Final grooming or Gentle Massage
- ☐Stretching - Carrot Stretches & Leg Stretches
- ☐Hoof check
- ☐Tuck in horse with calm, positive energy
Record in App
- ☐Log all exercises performed during the session
- ☐Enter scores for each exercise
- ☐Add session notes - observations, reactions, wins, and concerns
- ☐Optional: Add plan sheet for next session
